Diploma in Scientific French (FLE) – Master's Preparation
What does this program entail? The DU FUSEE ("Français Universitaire et Scientifique pour Etudiants Etrangers" – Academic and Scientific French for International Students) is a one-year intensive French language program offered by the Department of Languages. This specialized French as a Foreign Language (FLE) program—focused on scientific French—is designed for international students who wish to improve their command of the language and pursue scientific studies by enrolling in a Master’s program at our university.
The one-year program comprises 500 hours distributed as follows:
- General French: daily life, social interactions, oral and written skills
- Academic and scientific French (FLE) in small groups: language of science, university study skills
- Lecture and tutorial immersion: immersion in lectures and tutorials related to students' fields of study
- Laboratory internships
- Guided independent study at the CRL (Language Resource Center)
- Cultural outings
The training objectives are:
- Acquisition of advanced language skills: mastery of French for scientific purposes (FLE) at a level enabling professional and academic communication
- Obtaining a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) proficiency certification
Key information
- Open to students who hold a bachelor's degree or are on track to obtain one during the 2026 academic year.
- The minimum French proficiency level required to apply is A2 (A1+ accepted only by special dispensation). Target level upon completion: B2/C1.
- Applications from candidates who already possess a B2 level in French will not be considered.
- The program is conducted entirely in person over two semesters, from early September to late June.
- It comprises 500 hours of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) instruction distributed throughout the year.
- All activities and classes are taught by expert FLE instructors.
- The cost of the program is €3,500, plus university administrative registration fees.
REGISTRATION
Applications 2027/28 will open in October.
Required supporting documents (in English or French):- Transcripts from 2 first years, and the first semester of year 3 (even provisional). If applying for a 4-year Bachelor's degree, provide transcripts from the first 3 years.
